Frequently Asked Questions

Do the therapists at Nurtured Mind Psychotherapy work collaboratively?

Simply put, no. All therapists featured on the Nurtured Mind Psychotherapy website are independent practitioners who hold their own business licences. The therapist’s share a common goal of supporting women, and benefit from working as a collective for marketing purposes. All treatment is provided by the designated therapist.

What is a Social Worker and can they perform psychotherapy?

Social workers explore problems within the context of their families, workplace and communities, and consider the connection between personal problems and larger social issues. Social workers cannot offer a diagnosis, but they can be certified to deliver a wide array of evidence-based protocols. In fact, social workers provide the majority of counselling and psychotherapy services in the province of Ontario and are licensed by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). As of December 31, 2019, performance of the controlled act of psychotherapy became restricted to members of select regulatory colleges, which includes members of OCSWSSW.

Are the fees covered by my Insurance Plan?

Fees for private Social Work psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. However, most private insurance plans cover at least some of the fees for the services provided by Social Workers and/or Psychotherapists. The amount of coverage available may vary from one insurance policy to another. If you have an insurance plan (e.g., through your employer), we suggest that you review your policy with your insurance company to find out how much coverage is available for Social Work Psychotherapy services. Some insurance companies require a referral (usually from a family physician or a psychiatrist) before they will reimburse the cost of these services.

What forms of payment are accepted.

At the present time we are only accepting Interac e-transfers. Payment is required at the time of the appointment. For those with insurance coverage, payment is due at the time of the appointment and a receipt will be provided for you to submit to your insurance provider.

What if I miss an appointment?

We ask that you give us 24 hours notice if you must cancel an appointment. Things happen - we get it. However, we are human and have lives outside of our work too (hard to believe some days, but its true). Cancellations made without 24 hours notice, or a no show will be subject to the full session fee prior to rescheduling.

How do you set your fees?

We understand the costs for therapy can feel expensive. Our fees are based on market standard, as well as the level of experience we bring to the table. Our therapists are master’s level social workers who have had many years of supervised practice prior beginning in the private world. In addition to our education, we have been trained in a number of different modalities and keep our skills current through ongoing skills development and training. We are committed to bringing you the best service possible.

What is Teletherapy?

Teletherapy has gained a lot of momentum in the therapy world recently. The use of teletherapy has increased accessibility, and allowed for secure, more convenient appointments all from the comfort of your own home.

Our teletherapy services are offered using a secure virtual platform called Owl Practice. All that is required on your end is a stable internet connection, and access to a mobile device, tablet or laptop.

How should I prepare my space for Teletherapy appointments?

We recommend you treat your appointment as you would any ‘in person’ appointment with the added twist of having your own home comforts. The most important part is to find a space that is quiet, private and distraction free.

Prior to beginning individual or group therapy, we will share with you a document of how to prepare for your sessions and 'virtual’ therapy etiquette that some have expressed to be helpful.
